If you follow Indian cinema, Kareena Kapoor needs no introduction. If you are not from India or don’t follow Indian cinema, here’s a complete bio. Kareena Kapoor is a fourth-generation movie star who hails from the first family of Indian cinema.
Kapoor is the youngest daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita. Other family members of her family like sister Karisma, cousin Ranbir and uncle Rishi are also well known actors. Her grand father Raj Kapoor and great grand father Prithviraj Kapoor were also a part of Indian film fraternity. Born on September 21st 1980, in Mumbai, Kareena started her education at Jamnabai Narsee School and later attended Welham Girls Boarding School in Dehradun and described her experience their as one of the best parts in her life. She then continued in Harvard University and Government Law College respectively. According to her she was a good student through out her academic life and was good in all subjects except mathematics. As she was always interested in acting since her childhood she also attended her acting classes before stepping into the film industry.
Kareena was first planned to credit her debut in year 2000’s super hit Kaho Na Pyar Ha, alongside Hrithik Roshan but she unlike other star kids, made her entry through off-beat cinema by giving Refugee(2000) and grabbed all the best debutant awards that year. With in no time she became popular among the audience s due to her power pack on screen presence. In year 2001 she gave two hits Mujhe Kuch Kehna Ha and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, the later one became the highest grosser of that year. Years 2002-2003 was a period when she faced a setback in her carrier. She did six films and all of them were failed on the Box office.
She then played a much challenging and desired role of prostitute in Chameli (2004) which became one of the best performances of her carrier. During the filming of Fida (2004) she and co star Shahid Kapoor started dating each other. Later on she won a Filmfare award for Best Actress Critics for Dev (2004).After a couple of films, Kareena then portrayed Dolly Mishra in Omkara (2006) a film inspired by Shakespeare’s play Othello. The film became a turning point in her carrier and she grew up as an actress wining another Filmfare Award. Her cameo appearance in hit song Yeh Mera Dil in Don (2006) also became talk of the town.
In 2007 she was featured in Imtiaz Ali’s romantic comedy Jab We Met opposite her that time beau Shahid Kapoor. Her portrayal of a young enthusiastic and talkative girl Geet Dhilon was highly praised and loved by critics and film viewers. Jab We Met became a Benchmark in Kapoor’s filmy carrier. She received a number of awards and became the highest paid actress in India.
After Jab We Met she starred in many critically and commercially successful films like Kurbaan,3Idiots, We Are Family and Golmaal series among which 3Idiots became India’s highest grosser ever. Her recent released flick Bodyguard broke all the opening day records at box office. Her chemistry with co-star Salman Khan was highly appretiated.
In 2007, Bebo (her common name) entered in a relation ship with actor Saif Ali Khan. Today they are very much a couple and are a subject of wide media attention.
