Akshay Kumar:
Akshay Kumar often known as Khiladi of Bollywood is a well known Indian actor. Kumar was born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on 9 September 1967 but later changed his name to his present name. Kumar was born to a Hindi, Punjabi family. He was earlier raised in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and was then moved to Mumbai where he got his Black Belt for Taekwondo and for further learning he moved to Bangkok, Thailand there he learned Martial Arts and Muay Thai. He then returned to Mumbai and started teaching Martial Arts when one of his students who was also a photographer promoted him for a modeling agency.
After a couple of modeling assignments he then made his film debut in 1991 with saugandh and then he starred in Khiladi (1992), first film in Khiladi series which did well at the box office. Later on he did hit films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Mohra, Suhaag and Elaan. He went on to won his first Filmfare nomination for Best actor for his work in first romantic role in Yeh Dillagi (1994). He continued giving hit films in Khiladi series until he did Mr And Mrs Khiladi, a fifth film in the Khiladi (1997) series which was a flop and following it his later films in the same series failed to do well at box office. He was cast down for a supporting role in super hit Dil To Pagal Hai and was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Kumar received critical acclaim for his two releases in year 1999, Sangharsh and Jaanwar.
In 2000 he starred in his first hit comedy Hera Pheri and romantic drama Dhadkan. Kumar then won his first Filmfare Awrd for Best Villain for his performance in Ajnabee (2001). Following Hera Pheri’s success he was then seen in a number of comedy hits like Awaara Paagal Deewana (2002), Mujh Se Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Garam Masala (2005). For the later one he won Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. Besides comedy films he also kept on reprising in dramatic roles like Ek Rishta (2001), Aankhen (2002), Aitraaz (2004) Bewafaa (2005) AND Waqt: The Race Against Time.
After a couple of hits and average grosser in 2006, the year 2007 came, a year which is considered most successful year in Kumar’s carrier when he gave four films and all of them earned a status of blockbuster. These include Namastey London, Hey Baby, Bhool Bhullaiyaa and Welcome. For Nmastey London he also got a Filmfare nomination for Best Actor. After giving such kind of films, Kumar became one of the most bankable stars of the industry which led him to make a successful debut on TV screen in popular show Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2008.During 2008-2011, most of his films were box office failures except for Singh Is King and Houseful, both of the films were huge success at the box office.
In year 2001, Kumar married to actress Twinkle Khanna, daughter of actor Rajesh Khanna and actress Dimple Kapadia after dating his co-stars Raveena Tondon and Shilpa Shetty.
Kumar’s much awaited films are Houseful 2, Joker, Desi Boys and much hyped Once Upon a Time in Mumbai sequel, in which he’ll play real life Don Dawood Ibrahim opposite Kareena Kapoor as 80’s bombshell actress Mandakini.
