Kareena Kapoor as an actress

Ever since Kareena Kapoor entered in the World of cinema she is constantly making news for her flawless acting skills. Here we have a sneak peak on Bebo’s (lovingly called by her close ones) carrier graph as an actress.

Kareena was born a star as she says acting is in her blood she just proved it through her very first film Refugee (2000). The bold beauty unlike other star sons and daughters took decision of her arrival in B-Town through offbeat cinema which clearly went in her favor as she got all the best debutant awards that year including her Filmfare Award for Best Female Debutant.

Her first hit was Mujhy Kuch Kehna Hai (2001) in which she shined in a girl next door role. She was first time highly praised for playing princess Kaurwaki in Ashoka opposite Shahrukh Khan that is the reason why she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was again noticed by playing glamorous “Poo” in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001) which became highest grosser of that year. Kapoor’s performance was adorable and was described as one of the main highlights of the film. She was specially praised for her styling. This film earned Kapoor a nomination of Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

During 2002-2003 Kareena was seen in six films all of them were proved duds at the box office. Her performances were also criticized by the reviewers as they reviewed that she was becoming typecast and her performances were unconvincing and repetitive.

After much criticism on her professional life she then started taking interest in more serious roles and accepted an offer of essaying a character of prostitute in Chameli (2004) which later proved a turning point in her carrier. Upon the release of film, both Kapoor’s performance and film received huge positive response by critics stating her “intuitive brilliance” and also that she has exceeded all expectations and she won a Filmfare Special Performance Award. In her next film Yuva (2004) her performance as Mira was accepted critically. She then starred alongside Amitabh Bachan in critically acclaimed film Dev (2004) as a young Muslim woman “Aaliya” for which she received a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. She also got positive reviews for playing a negative role for the first time in Fida (2004) during the filming of which she and co-star Shahid Kapoor started dating each other. She then starred in some hits and flops in 2005. For her acting in Kyun Ki she again garnered critical acclaim with the BBC reporting that she is “[…] a pure natural when it comes to acting”. Her Shakespearean character of Desdemona (Dolly Mishra) in Omkara (2006) became the highlight of the film earning her fourth Filmfare Award.

She then was seen as the vivacious “Geet Dhilon” in super hit Jab We Met (2007). Her power pack performance was so convincing that she grabbed all the best actress awards that year including Filmfare Award and she got a status of one of the few best actresses in business.

Post Jab We Met, Bebo was praised almost in every film of hers. She got nominated in several award functions for films like Kurbaan, 3Idiots, We Are Family and Golmaal3 and also won many of them. In her last release Bodyguard (2011) she was again applauded for her work.

She’ll soon be seen doing much performance oriented roles in her upcoming flicks Dhuan, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai sequel and much talked about film Heroine.
