On TV Tonight: Watch Keira Knightley as Tinkerbell in part 2 of 'Neverland' on SyFy

Part two (episode 2) of SyFy's new original miniseries two-night event of Neverland featuring Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinkerbell concludes tonight at 9 PM ET on SyFy channel. Check your local listings for times in your area.

Neverland, a prequel to author J.M. Barrie's classic, Peter Pan, sweeps in time from the turbulent seas of the pirates of the Caribbean and the back alleys of Dickensian London to a world of pure imagination. The cast includes Rhys Ifans (Pirate Radio, Notting Hill) as James Hook,  Oscar nominee Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinker Bell, Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) as Captain Elizabeth Bonny, Oscar nominee Bob Hoskins as Smee (who previously played the character in Steven Spielberg's feature, Hook), Raoul Trujillo (Tin Man) and Charlie Rowe (Pirate Radio) as one of literature's most cherished characters, Peter Pan.

Peter (Rowe), along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Ifans) to snatch a magical orb which transports them to another world - Neverland.  Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr. Fludd (Dance) and inhabited by a colony of tree spirits led by Tinker Bell (Knightley), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time.  These include power-mad Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and her band of 18th century pirates who search for the answer to eternal youth, a secret guarded by a Holy Man (Trujillo).  As the fight to save this strange and beautiful world escalates, Peter and his crew consider that growing old somewhere in time could be less important than growing up—right here in their new home called Neverland.

As a former child actor, Keira Knightley knows the pressures that her industry can exact on its youngest recruits.

She is taking an interest in Charlie Rowe, 15, who appeared with her in Never Let Me Go and Neverland. “Keira offers me lots of good advice,” Charlie told me at the British Academy Children’s Awards at the Park Lane Hilton. “We’ve been discussing university and she said it is great for making friends. I’m considering going, but if a great job comes up that would take priority.”

But first...

Read Director Nick Willing Neverland Interview (via Collider)
Was it difficult to decide on a voice for Tinkerbell?

WILLING: I couldn’t think of her being anything but English, for the voice. I thought that was important. In the book, she doesn’t speak, as such. Peter understands her. They have this inner voice, but you never actually hear it. In my film, I was keen to try to hear that inner voice, and I thought it should be an English voice. When you’re casting, the way it works is that you think to yourself, “Who is the person I most want? Who would be most perfect?” So, I thought Keira Knightley was the most perfect. She’s almost like a fairy. She’s so beautiful. She has this clear, beautiful voice, and she has that English accent that’s not totally posh, but that is timeless.

She had to be English because she’s an inner voice and he’s English, so he would hear her speaking in an English accent. If the voice is in his head, he wouldn’t hear her speaking in Italian. He’d hear her speaking in a voice that he would regard, so that was how it worked. I thought of Keira Knightley, and I was totally amazed when she said yes. She read the script, was intrigued by it, and said yes, right away. She came in and she was fantastic. She really worked very, very hard on the nuance, which is difficult when you’re doing a voice. The timbre and nuance of how you say something has very different implications, so she worked very hard at that. She was incredibly conscientious, and such a beautiful woman.
