I Deserve That Side-Eye, Adam Scott

I suppose it's just the fact that I am totally blown out right now but everything that should be exciting me today is just making me wary. So instead of greeting the (week old, but I am just seeing it) news that comedy storm-troopers Adam Scott and Ken Marino and Kristen Bell and hot hot Ryan Hansen (Party Down, ho!), plus Michael Ian Black and Kerri Kenney, plus others, will all be appearing in an online series for Comedy Central called Burning Love that will make fun of reality-dating shows... well instead of greeting that with a hearty "Whoo-hoo!" like it deserves my first thought was more like "Well it can't be as good as Party Down, maybe they shouldn't push their luck." Ugh I am so gross right now! So don't listen to me and my mood. Be excited, be be excited. So forth, so on.

I should add I have a ticket to see a Q&A with Adam Scott in person with that movie Friends With Kids tonight and I am about 95% to the point of bailing, just so I can go home and lay very very still on the floor until sweet slumber takes me away. Somebody yell at me! God, pathetic.

Paul Rudd Twelve Times

(click to embiggen) Wanna know who's adorable in person? Wow if I said somebody other than Paul Rudd to answer that question - Albert Fish! - that would be weird. (It would especially weird if I said Albert Fish.) Anyway yes as you can see from those pictures above, Paul Rudd is indeed every inch of adorable live you hope he will be. Those are from the Film Comment Selects screening of David Wain's Wanderlust that screened here in NY last night. Also there with Paul was Wain and his co-stars Ken Marino, Kerri Kenney, and Alan Alda.

I'd put Wanderlust about on par with Wain's last movie Role Models - so very funny, but maybe undone a little bit by an erratic tone - towards the end there's some sappy story machinations that even the movie half-rolls its eyes at. Sometimes you feel with Wain's movies this sense of, "Oh fine, we'll actually bother to do some plot now, whatever." It's a real showcase for Rudd though, and he's his ever charming yet vulgar self. That he can maintain such sweetness while using a broad southern waitress voice to say the word "dick" over and over again is a testament to his abilities.

And of course the rest of the cast runs deep with talent - Aniston's perfectly charming, while Ken Marino has his blustering jerk thing down pat. And I was surprised not at how funny Micheala Watkins was as Marino's suffering wife but at how much the movie allowed her to be so funny. Hers is a usually thankless role that Wain mined more than you expect him to. And then you've got Kenney, Alda, Malin Akerman, Joe Lo Truglia, Kathryn Hahn, Lauren Ambrose, Linda Lavin (!), so so many people hitting so many funny notes. And Justin Theroux is a bushy-bearded sex bomb. This thing I tweeted last night about says it all.

Oh and during the Q&A Paul Rudd and Ken Marino were asked about a Party Down movie, and that managed to be the only bit I recorded on video. Spoiler alert: they totally dodge the question, but are adorable while doing it.

(click to embiggen) Oh boy, a new chance to indulge my two favorite things in the world - good looking fellows in some state of undress, and bookshelves. Hooray! When the twain ever do meet it's a celebration, and this time's an especially good one, because it involves Dick. Casablancas, that is. Ryan Hansen, who played with Dick on Veronica Mars and Kyle on Party Down and got shot through the face with an arrow in the Friday the 13th remake...

... that is, aka one of our most favorite people, and one we don't get to talk about often enough. And there he is striking a pose for us in front of bookshelves! I do, Ryan!

These pictures are from some show he was on called Friends With Benefits that I'm pretty sure I never even heard of. He apparently spent a whole lot of time on the show taking his clothes off though, which you'll see since I've got a thousand and a half pictures to post, but can I just say first off that Ryan has aged well. Really well. He's let his natural fuzziness come in for one, which magnifies his sexiness to the Nth degree.

Nnnnnth. So like I said I've got a whole lot of pictures from this show to post, but all of this was actually brought about because of actual real news, and not just my hormones. Deadline take it away:

"Party Down and Veronica Mars alum Ryan Hansen has landed the lead in the Fox comedy pilot El Jefe. The project, from writers David Guarascio & Moses Port and Sony TV, centers on an affable but lost 30-year-old (Hansen) who, tossed out of his Brentwood home, moves in with his longtime Latin American nanny and goes head to head with her strong-willed son and finds himself in a family and work life very different than the ones he grew up in."

So it sounds for the best that I never watched Friends With Benefits, because that shit is obviously super dead. But Ryan moves on, and I hope this show's good, because my beloved Dick deserves good things. HIT THE JUMP for a mountain of pics.
