In Celebration: Charles Dickens' 200th Birthday!

Why celebrate Dickens bicentennial birthday here on this P&P Blog? Well, why ever not, four of our favorite P&P (2005) actors: Keira Knightley (Oliver Twist 1999), Matthew Macfadyen (Little Dorrit 2008), Carey Mulligan (Bleak House 2005), and (the upcoming The Mystery of Edwin Drood 2012) all had done Dickens based adaptations on television, that's why!

First of all, Charles Dickens was born on this day, February 7, 1812. Born
Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) was an English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian period.Dickens enjoyed a wider popularity and fame than had any previousauthor during his lifetime, and he remains popular, having beenresponsible for some of English literature's most iconic novels andcharacters. Read more about Dickens here on wikipedia!

So, yeah these P&P 05 actors had not only done one (or two) of our favorite Austen movies (Pride & Prejudice 2005, and Northanger Abbey 2007 with Carey Mulligan co-starring), they each did one of 4 of many Dickens adaptations too. Check out the following 4 Dickens adaptations with 4 P&P actors co-starring below...

I Am Link

.
--- He's A Maniac - Every couple of days my mind drifts to the Alexandre Aja directed remake of the sleaze-filled 1980 slasher Maniac starring Elijah Wood and I'm all, "Wha?" So I read this piffle of an interview with one of the actresses in the film with curiosity. She's all, "I've never seen the original, but this is totally different!" and she says that Aja made all of her favorite horror movies of all time (???), so whatever, but still. Wha?

--- Southern Cabin - AICN runs through the films that are showing at this year's SXSW festival, which apparently includes Joss Whedon scripted Drew Goddard directed long long awaited The Cabin in the Woods, sigh, I want it. AICN has seen it already and says:

"I feel very confident that this will be talked about for most of the year, especially when they see some of the wild imagery that Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon have cooked up. One sequence - I won't spoil, but involves a bunch of elevators - made me want to stand up and applaud. It's a hell of a horror movie, and it's so much fun."

Sigh, I want it.

--- Sad News, Kate Winslet isn't going to be in Charlie Kaufman's movie Frank or Francis after all, boo. I missed that tidbit when they announced Paul Reubens (and Elizabeth Banks) were going to be in it, I guess. I just blocked it out, because it sucks!

--- Speaking of Charlie Kaufman things, Spike Jonze is working on a movie that isn't the Charlie Kaufman movie we thought he was making, says Slash. Jonze is gathering together a (awesome awesome) cast including Amy Adams, Joaquin Phoenix, Samantha Morton, and Carey Mulligan for a movie about a man that falls in love with a computer voice. What's confusing is that script of Charlie Kaufman's that Spike is also attached to doing is also supposed to star Mulligan and Phoenix. Maybe he will just make both movies simultaneously! It's been too long since I've had a Spike Jonze Joint in my life, having two would rule.

--- Thirteen Thirteen - Bryan Fuller's reboot of The Munsters is not going to be called The Munsters, but rather it will be called Mockingbird Lane, after their memorable address of 1313 et cetera. According to TV Line they are in the casting stage right now.

--- Silent Dom - We told you about Motor City awhile back - it's that thriller that will star Dominic Cooper in which he is only supposed to have a single line of dialogue the whole running time. Well Oscar Nominee Gary Oldman (how nice to be able to say that) has just joined the thing as the bad guy. He makes a good bad guy!

--- Patience Is A Virtue, and I guess I am virtueless - I posted some shitty-quality screencaps from a clip of a trailer on Entertainment Tonight for The Hunger Games earlier, but I should have just waited because now the whole trailer's released in great quality over at Yahoo. I'm waiting until I get home tonight and can watch it properly to, uh, watch it properly.

--- Shaken And Stirred - I guess that shot of Daniel Craig's speedo-clad ass-crack wasn't the first "official" still from the new James Bond movie Skyfall, since that's what they're calling this much less exciting shot of Danny looking a little constipated in the face. I mean, I love Danny's constipated face, don't get me wrong, but it's no speedo-clad ass-crack, ya know?

--- Good Woman Plays Bad Woman - I have had about my fill (well past, honestly) of Caribou Barbie in this lifetime, so I haven't watched the trailer for Game Change with the lovely and awesome Julianne Moore playing Sarah Palin. Should I bother? I mean, I'm sure Juli's going to do a great job, but the thought of beautiful Juli dolled up as that moronic hillbilly harridan makes me kind of queasy.

--- Boo Flew - Have you watched the trailer for 7500, the new horror flick from the director of The Grudge? It appears to be "The Grudge On A Plane." Or Ghosts on a Plane, as I saw it referenced as well. Although that really needs an exclamation point if you ask me. Ghosts on a Plane! Anyway it stars Ryan Kwanten and Leslie Bibb and is a haunted house movie... on a plane. Ryan looks hot but I have my doubts that he's going to find the opportunity to take off his clothes in this, which is disappointing. It's out at the end of August.

--- Down The Water Spout - I can't remember if I've ever gotten around to watching Nash Edgerton's short film Spider - brother to the actor Joel, Nash made the brilliantly tense film The Square - but it's supposed to be awesome and Slash has got it, along with a tease of its sequel called Bear, right here. I've meant to if I haven't, so I will check it out later. This is me reminding myself to do that. Done, and done!

--- Roadies - I loved Nat's little ode to a very fine scene between Carey Mulligan and Ryan Gosling in Drive over at Towleroad yesterday. It's out on DVD now, so we can all watch that scene where [SPOILER] gets [SPOILER] in the [SPOILER] over and over again, hooray!

--- And speaking of Drive, the Mondo poster for it that just got revealed is really hot shit. If I didn't already have a closet filled with movie posters my boyfriend won't let me hang on the wall I'd be all over it.

--- Whither Meyers - A 3rd Halloween film in the rebooted series was scheduled to come out in time for Halloween this year, but seeing as how they haven't even cast anybody yet, let alone filmed a single frame, they thought better of that and now it's been pushed to next year, says STYD. I'm kind of sad that the big three slasher killers are AWOL right now. I need at least one of them in my life! Michael, Freddy, Jason, come back to me!
