--- Jake Out - No, not out out, but out of Motor City, that movie he was just supposedly in as of yesterday, replacing Dominic Cooper. He is not doing the film now - story goes he wanted to push back the start date but the studio wasn't having none of it. Why would he need to push back the start date? What the hell is he doing instead? He has zero point zero zero projects lined up. WTF, Jake?

--- Cool Rider - Tom Hardy's going to play a tough ass ex-Vietnam vet biker dude in a new movie. And now we should all take a moment inside of our minds to imagine Tom Hardy in military fatigues and then in biker leather. Yes, this movie needed to be made.

--- Once Loved - Apparently the Aussie horror flick The Loved Ones - which was my favorite horror movie of last year - is getting an actual release here in the US this year? That's what BD says, and they have a new poster. It's a glorious movie, so effing good, so if you get the chance to see it for real do it!

--- Rush Rush - Since it's a Ron Howard movie it will inevitably suck, but DH has a couple shots of Chris Hemsworth on the set of Rush, which is about a race car driver, and that one of him there to the ? is too good to pass up. Even with that strange (albeit period appropriate) shag.

--- Melvil Anyways - There's a gallery of photographs of the lovely Melvil Poupaud in Xavier Dolan's next movie Laurence Anyways over here (thanks to Nat for the heads-up).

--- Fassy Supporters - Casting is moving along with Ridley Scott's next movie The Counselor - that's the one that will star Michael Fassbender as a lawyer who gets over his head dealing drugs on the side. Natalie Portman is up for the lead lady role, while the villain role, which was being circled by Javier Bardem, Jeremy Renner and Brad Pitt, is now between Bardem and Renner. I was hoping for Pitt. Bardem is apparently who Scott wants.

Collider has plopped down a couple of big new galleries for big new movies we are excited like bonkers over - that pic above is from a huge gallery of new pictures from The Avengers, and that is of course Chris Evans being the usual hot piece of meat. Supposedly there's a new trailer for the movie out? No doubt I'll be confronted with it at the theater or on TV at some point and be unable to look away, but for now I'm going to try and not watch more footage if I can help it. It's not like I won't be seeing this movie on opening weekend.

And speaking of movies I'll be seeing on opening weekend - hell, i already have my ticket! - Collider's also got a whole bunch of new images from The Hunger Games, including lots of shots of the over-the-top costumes from the Capitol, and most awesomely our first real look at Isabella Fuhrmann as the diabolical villanness Clove, a thousand exclamation points! (thanks Will!)

There are Fifty-Seven Days...

... until the Joss Whedon-scripted Drew Goddard-directed and Chris Hemsworth-starring The Cabin in the Woods comes out on April 13th. 57! That's not really that much considering the fact that we've been waiting for about four years. For real, I just went back through all my Joss Whedon posts and found what I think is my first mention of the movie, and it was in July of 2008. To give you some perspective on that, looking at the surrounding posts at that time I was also really excited about the trailer for Quantum of Solace and the fact that Helena Bonham Carter might have a tiny part in the new Terminator movie. Good grief.

Anyway, 57 days. I can deal with that. I also might be very very quiet on the movie until then, because I thought the trailer for it might have given away too much and I don't want to see any more footage, lest I spoil myself completely. The fact that I've made it four years and not had it ruined already is incredible, really.

So anyway, keeping with what I just said about trying not to spoil myself for it in these last 57 days, hey look there's a new interview with Joss Whedon talking about the movie! And since it's Joss Whedon talking about horror, I just have to go and quote all of it, because it's better than the union of chocolate and peanut butter, Joss and horror. Man I cannot wait for this thing!

“It’s basically a very loving hate letter... On some level it was completely a lark, me and Drew [Goddard, director] trying to figure out what the most fun we could have would be. On another level it’s a serious critique of what we love and what we don’t about horror movies.

I love being scared. I love that mixture of thrill, of horror, that objectification/identification thing of wanting definitely for the people to be alright but at the same time hoping they’ll go somewhere dark and face something awful.

The things that I don’t like are kids acting like idiots, the devolution of the horror movie into torture porn and into a long series of sadistic comeuppances. Drew and I both felt that the pendulum had sung a little too far in that direction."

I was just thinking of the actor and Vartan-doppleganger Michael Stahl-David the other day for the first time in a long time, after seeing Chronicle, a movie that naturally reminded me of Cloverfield. What happened to him? I thought he'd get more work, if only the spy-boyfriend and cute-English-teacher roles that Micael Vartan's too old for now. Guess there aren't as many of those to go around as I assumed. Anyway Deadline has word that he's set to star alongside Zoe Kazan in In Your Eyes, which was written by none other than Mr. Buffy himself, Joss Whedon. We heard about this movie before. Joss isn't directing, but who cares because he wrote it and that's plenty awesomeness already. Plenty!

I was just thinking of the actor and Vartan-doppleganger Michael Stahl-David the other day for the first time in a long time, after seeing Chronicle, a movie that naturally reminded me of Cloverfield. --- He's A Maniac - Every couple of days my mind drifts to the Alexandre Aja directed remake of the sleaze-filled 1980 slasher Maniac starring Elijah Wood and I'm all, "Wha?" So I read this piffle of an interview with one of the actresses in the film with curiosity. She's all, "I've never seen the original, but this is totally different!" and she says that Aja made all of her favorite horror movies of all time (???), so whatever, but still. Wha?

--- Southern Cabin - AICN runs through the films that are showing at this year's SXSW festival, which apparently includes Joss Whedon scripted Drew Goddard directed long long awaited The Cabin in the Woods, sigh, I want it. AICN has seen it already and says: 

"I feel very confident that this will be talked about for most of the year, especially when they see some of the wild imagery that Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon have cooked up. One sequence - I won't spoil, but involves a bunch of elevators - made me want to stand up and applaud. It's a hell of a horror movie, and it's so much fun."

Sigh, I want it.

--- Sad News, Kate Winslet isn't going to be in Charlie Kaufman's movie Frank or Francis after all, boo. I missed that tidbit when they announced Paul Reubens (and Elizabeth Banks) were going to be in it, I guess. I just blocked it out, because it sucks!

--- Speaking of Charlie Kaufman things, Spike Jonze is working on a movie that isn't the Charlie Kaufman movie we thought he was making, says Slash. Jonze is gathering together a (awesome awesome) cast including Amy Adams, Joaquin Phoenix, Samantha Morton, and Carey Mulligan for a movie about a man that falls in love with a computer voice. What's confusing is that script of Charlie Kaufman's that Spike is also attached to doing is also supposed to star Mulligan and Phoenix. Maybe he will just make both movies simultaneously! It's been too long since I've had a Spike Jonze Joint in my life, having two would rule.

--- Thirteen Thirteen - Bryan Fuller's reboot of The Munsters is not going to be called The Munsters, but rather it will be called Mockingbird Lane, after their memorable address of 1313 et cetera. According to TV Line they are in the casting stage right now. 

--- Silent Dom - We told you about Motor City awhile back - it's that thriller that will star Dominic Cooper in which he is only supposed to have a single line of dialogue the whole running time. Well Oscar Nominee Gary Oldman (how nice to be able to say that) has just joined the thing as the bad guy. He makes a good bad guy!

--- Patience Is A Virtue, and I guess I am virtueless - I posted some shitty-quality screencaps from a clip of a trailer on Entertainment Tonight for The Hunger Games earlier, but I should have just waited because now the whole trailer's released in great quality over at Yahoo. I'm waiting until I get home tonight and can watch it properly to, uh, watch it properly.
