I Am Link

.
--- Always Repays His Debts - A Game of Thrones starts next weekend! A Game of Thrones starts next weekend! I've been distracted by my Hunger Games mania, but this is just as cool. I still won't be seeing the show til the following Monday per my usual day-long delay, so don't expect me to write anything on time. Don't go holding your breath is what I'm telling you! Because you would naturally, otherwise. Anyway my pal Sean has rounded up a whole bunch of cool news bits about the show over here, go forth and gather. You should also be reading his ASOIAF-devoted blog too, but only if you've read all the books since there be spoilers there.

--- Golden Games - I know I always downplay box office, especially when it's something I like that's doing lousy - which is the way it normally happens - but the news that The Hunger Games is expected to be financially massive this weekend is making me very happy. Mostly because they can then throw tons and tons of money at the sequels. And afford Chris Hemsworth for Finnick. Ahh my motives become clear! Come on, Chris Hemsworth in a fishnet leotard? Who doesn't want to see that?

--- Lizards In Lust - I couldn't resist this take on fish-rapist classic Humanoids From the Deep over at AICN - I just wrote up a brief couple of thoughts on that sleazy beast back in August. It is such utter, yet entertaining, trash.

--- Summer Thirteen - DH rounded up a couple of release dates for movies of the future we will want to see - Guillermo Del Toros Pacific Rim, with Charlies Hunnam and Day and Idris Elba (a fuckable from start to finish cast if ever there was one), will be out on July 12th, 2013. That's actually a delay of a couple of months. But I know what I'm doing for my birthday weekend in fifteen months now! And also, the sequel to the leather-diaper fetish-film 300 is coming out on August 2nd, 2013. Next Summer's already full up.

--- Hedwig's Nightmare - This post is just one of the myriad reasons why I adore Glenn - he's been watching the old 80s Krueger spin-off series Freddy's Nightmares, and discovered an episode that starred who else but... John Cameron Mitchell?

--- Down River - Netflix might be scooping up ABC's The River, which I only made it three episodes into before deciding it was either I threw my TV set out the window or I stopped watching its inanity. I guess I wasn't alone since its rating crumbled week to week, hence it maybe now moving to Netflix, just like its counterpart in inexplicable crapitude Terra Nova. Again i say, why Thomas Krestchmann? Why???

Which is Hotter?

What with the movie out at Midnight,
this question seemed especially propitious.

Good Morning, World

.

I had a dream that I posted on Liam Hemsworth this morning, so here I am, posting on Liam Hemsworth this morning. I guess The Hunger Games looms large (shocker) in my brain these days. Anyway it couldn't even be a dirty dream? All it was was me posting pictures of him. You know you blog too much when. My subconscious is a failure. See more gratuitous pics of Liam here.

TGT11: Great Gratuities of 2011, Runners-Up

.

The time has come for the best naked menfolk of the year, according to me. Keep in mind this list (as all of these lists, of course) is highly subjective - although I think a lot of you are here because you find attractive the same gentlemen I tend to find attractive, the logic to the way I had to come up with to organize these guys, from top to bottom (and front to side, and every which way), probably will only make sense to me in the end. So it shall be.

But first up, the also-rans. These are the ones that I managed to remember but missed out on my top twenty. They're all prime obviously, but for the most part they just didn't give up enough this time around to qualify. Sorry, dudes. Please, do better next time! I like it when you try.

As an aside, I've been adding names to this all week so I'm sure there are people I haven't thought of, that slipped my mind, I am only one man and even my encyclopedic knowledge of cinematic bo-hunkery has its limits. And if they slipped my mind at this point I say they must have not done good enough in the first place! So, the runners-up be...

Chris Hemsworth, Thor

Chris Carmack, Shark Night (more here)

Bobby Cannavale, Win Win (more here)

Aaron Johnson, Albert Nobbs (more here)

Dustin Milligan, Shark Night (more here)

Taylor Lautner, Abduction (more here)

Hugh Jackman, Real Steel

Stephen Dorff, Immortals

James Franco, Your Highness

Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe, I Melt With You (more here)

Jon Hamm, Bridesmaids

Coming later --- The Top 20!

Do Dump or Marry - Heroes In The Half-Clothed

.

I don't think I ever asked this question last Summer when I should have so I'll ask it here as we glance back at the year in retrospect. Now that their respective movies have come and gone we'll be able to have an opinion formed upon more than just their impressively non-existant body fat percentages, so our answers may be different then they were way back when anyway.

Which of 2011's super men - Chris Evans as Captain America
Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern
and Chris Hemsworth as Thor
- would you do, dump or marry?

I Am Link

.
--- Jake Out - No, not out out, but out of Motor City, that movie he was just supposedly in as of yesterday, replacing Dominic Cooper. He is not doing the film now - story goes he wanted to push back the start date but the studio wasn't having none of it. Why would he need to push back the start date? What the hell is he doing instead? He has zero point zero zero projects lined up. WTF, Jake?

--- Cool Rider - Tom Hardy's going to play a tough ass ex-Vietnam vet biker dude in a new movie. And now we should all take a moment inside of our minds to imagine Tom Hardy in military fatigues and then in biker leather. Yes, this movie needed to be made.

--- Team Up - Hey here's Joss Whedon talking about The Avengers, and then talking about The Avengers 2.

--- Once Loved - Apparently the Aussie horror flick The Loved Ones - which was my favorite horror movie of last year - is getting an actual release here in the US this year? That's what BD says, and they have a new poster. It's a glorious movie, so effing good, so if you get the chance to see it for real do it!

--- Rush Rush - Since it's a Ron Howard movie it will inevitably suck, but DH has a couple shots of Chris Hemsworth on the set of Rush, which is about a race car driver, and that one of him there to the ? is too good to pass up. Even with that strange (albeit period appropriate) shag.

--- Melvil Anyways - There's a gallery of photographs of the lovely Melvil Poupaud in Xavier Dolan's next movie Laurence Anyways over here (thanks to Nat for the heads-up).

--- Fassy Supporters - Casting is moving along with Ridley Scott's next movie The Counselor - that's the one that will star Michael Fassbender as a lawyer who gets over his head dealing drugs on the side. Natalie Portman is up for the lead lady role, while the villain role, which was being circled by Javier Bardem, Jeremy Renner and Brad Pitt, is now between Bardem and Renner. I was hoping for Pitt. Bardem is apparently who Scott wants.

There are Fifty-Seven Days...

.

... until the Joss Whedon-scripted Drew Goddard-directed and Chris Hemsworth-starring The Cabin in the Woods comes out on April 13th. 57! That's not really that much considering the fact that we've been waiting for about four years. For real, I just went back through all my Joss Whedon posts and found what I think is my first mention of the movie, and it was in July of 2008. To give you some perspective on that, looking at the surrounding posts at that time I was also really excited about the trailer for Quantum of Solace and the fact that Helena Bonham Carter might have a tiny part in the new Terminator movie. Good grief.

Anyway, 57 days. I can deal with that. I also might be very very quiet on the movie until then, because I thought the trailer for it might have given away too much and I don't want to see any more footage, lest I spoil myself completely. The fact that I've made it four years and not had it ruined already is incredible, really.

So anyway, keeping with what I just said about trying not to spoil myself for it in these last 57 days, hey look there's a new interview with Joss Whedon talking about the movie! And since it's Joss Whedon talking about horror, I just have to go and quote all of it, because it's better than the union of chocolate and peanut butter, Joss and horror. Man I cannot wait for this thing!

“It’s basically a very loving hate letter... On some level it was completely a lark, me and Drew [Goddard, director] trying to figure out what the most fun we could have would be. On another level it’s a serious critique of what we love and what we don’t about horror movies.

I love being scared. I love that mixture of thrill, of horror, that objectification/identification thing of wanting definitely for the people to be alright but at the same time hoping they’ll go somewhere dark and face something awful.

The things that I don’t like are kids acting like idiots, the devolution of the horror movie into torture porn and into a long series of sadistic comeuppances. Drew and I both felt that the pendulum had sung a little too far in that direction."

Liam Hemsworth Ten Times

.

There's our Gale, via a cover story in Details. I enjoyed this bit:

"In Australia, we used to always watch Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. I didn't know it was a real place. Epic." But he was disillusioned after a trip to a White Castle in Kentucky with his Hunger Games costar Josh Hutcherson. "The movie was better than the burgers," he says. "We might have thrown up after."

And now all I can think is how stoned everyone was on the set of The Hunger Games. More like The Munchies Games! No? Okay then.
.
